Baznīcas celtniecība tika sākta 796. gadā Kārļa Lielā valdīšanas laikā. Vecākā katedrāle Ziemeļeiropā. Viduslaikos pazīstama ar Āhenes Svētās Marijas karaliskās baznīcas nosaukumu. No 936. līdz 1531. gadam te tika kronēti 30 Vācijas karaļi un karalienes.

I was here today. My review: Wow! Just WOW! And except for the area around the main train station, Aachen is a lovely city. The town hall and the old city are also very nice. It is very walkable.

Ohne Frage eine der beeindruckendsten Kathedralkirchen in ganz Deutschland. Der Aachener Dom symbolisiert das himmlische Jerusalem. Und genau dort angekommen fühlt man sich, wenn man ihn betritt.
