The &quot;Palm Jumeirah&quot; is one of several man-made archipelagos along the coastline of the United Arab Emirates. This one in particular is designed to look like a palm tree from above (you can see the trunk of the tree and the 17 palm fronds in the image). The word &quot;Jumeirah&quot; basically means, &quot;beautiful&quot;. It is a coastal residential area in Dubai mainly comprising private houses. It is administratively divided into three neighborhoods titled &quot;Jumeirah 1,&quot; Jumeirah 2&quot; and &quot;Jumeirah 3.&quot; In the foreground of this picture, you can see the 'Burj Al Arab' resort, and in the middle of the palm, you can see the 'Atlantis Resort'. I shot this from an Emirates aircraft while heading to Kuwait City.
