This 188m falls is one of the first major waterfalls encountered in Yosemite Valley. It is named after that fact that when the wind is strong and the water volume is minimal the waterfall may be blown sideways and not actually cascade to the ground. The Ahwahneechee believed the waterfall to be inhabited by Pohono, "Spirit of the puffing wind", a vengeful spirit that would curse visitors who looked upon it before they left the valley. Revisited in early May, on the peak waterfall day. Bridalveil was suitably roaring, though not as much as it could be. Yosemite Village, Yosemite National Park, California
